with PACS!

TMC Advanced Imaging and its five imaging centers has fully implemented its PACS system to include electronic access to MRI, CT, PET, Ultrasound and Nuclear Medicine exams. These images are now available electronically on CD-ROM as well as directly from our PACS Website. PACS (Picture Archival Communication System) uses computers to display, archive, transmit and restore radiology images. These images are then permanently stored on DVD.

Also available through our PACS website are reports online! We are proud to offer comprehensive access patient exam information including reports.

Referring physicians are now able to access their patients' images via the web at the office or home. The system is secured through HIPAA compliant logins and passwords provided to participating physicians. Future enhancements to the system include interfacing the final, typed report with the images so physicians will have a complete electronic record of their patients' radiology study.

Another unique feature of PACS at TMC is the ability to access subspecialist radiologists regardless of where they are through teleradiology. For example, if a patient has an MRI in the Chandler facility and requires the immediate attention of the neuroradiology specialist who is in the Glendale facility, the images can be sent to him electronically in about five minutes. He can then read the images and call the referring physician before the patient even leaves the Chandler facility. It's truly radiology without walls!

The advantage of PACS over conventional film technology:

  • Lost records will be eliminated - all MR, CT, PET, Nuclear Medicine and Ultrasound images are permanently stored on DVD. Future plans include upgrades to plain film radiology as well
  • Referring physicians will be able to access images, report and audio report summaries at remote locations such as the office or home
  • Images and reports will be available promptly
  • Radiology costs will be reduced
  • Access to appropriate Radiologist sub-specialists will be improved
  • Hazardous waste associated with traditional film and chemicals will be minimized
